Icelandic Costumes in 1815
Description | English: Fig. 1 represents a woman of quality in all her finery. The most usual colors of the various items of clothing are blue and black; only the corset is of scarlet-colored wool. Fig. 2. The ordinary clothing of women of all classes. Fig. 3. A woman of quality in riding habit. Fig. 4. An Icelander in his holiday outfit. The shoes are of sealskin. The men’s long jackets are often of black wool (called Wadmal). Fig. 5. A Reikiavik pilot with sheepskin overgarment. Deutsch: Fig. 1. stellt eine Frau von Stande in vollem Anzuge vor. — Die gewöhnlichsten Farben der verschiedenen Kleidungsstücke sind blau oder schwarz. Nur das Leibchen ist von scharlachenem Wollenzeuge. Fig. 2. Der gewöhnliche Anzug der Frauenzimmer jeder Classe. Fig. 3. Eine Frau von Stande in Reitkleidern.
